SYNOPSIS

The goal was to design a pediatric behavioral health facility located within the Fairview Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. This facility focuses on treating mood disorders (depression, anxiety, PTSD, and disordered eating) in addition to other disorders like autism and substance abuse while serving patients ages 2-18 years. The design accounted for a range of stakeholders including patients, caregivers, providers, and staff.

The first-floor suite consisted of areas such as exam rooms, therapy rooms, consult rooms, and even a healing garden. Special considerations were made towards wayfinding to account for a variety of cognitive functions. This wayfinding was implemented through the use of written text, iconography, contrasting colors, and braille.
